Knock, Knock! Prize Patrol Arrives with Grants for ECISD

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a surprise visit from Prize Patrol. Armed with oversized checks and big smiles, the East Chambers ISD Education Foundation team recently made their way through campus halls delivering grants that will bring new opportunities and experiences to students across the district.

Because of You: $14,917 Awarded in Classroom Grants

Building Thinking Classrooms

One grant supports Building Thinking Classrooms, an instructional approach developed by researcher Dr. Peter Liljedahl that encourages students to actively think, collaborate, and explain their reasoning as they solve problems. Through this grant, an ECISD teacher will attend the Building Thinking Classrooms Summer Coaching Institute and earn certification as a BTC Certified Coach. This training will allow the teacher to share strategies and provide coaching to other educators in the district, expanding the impact to many classrooms and helping students build confidence, problem-solving skills, and deeper understanding. The foundation awarded enough funds for two teachers to go, if possible.

Spinning Up School Spirit

Another grant adds excitement to the junior high’s House System, which helps build school pride, leadership, and connection among students. Funds will purchase a large spinning house wheel used during the annual Sorting Ceremony and for house challenges throughout the year. Incoming sixth graders will spin the wheel to discover their house while current members cheer them on—creating a memorable tradition that strengthens community and encourages positive behavior across campus.

Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom

Another impactful grant supports the Hidden Treasure Closet, a resource that helps students access clothing, shoes, and personal care items they may need.

For many students, having clean clothes that fit well or access to hygiene products can make a huge difference in their confidence and ability to focus on learning. The closet allows students to “shop” for items they need—from everyday clothing to formal attire for events like prom, competitions, or award ceremonies.

Community members and staff have already donated clothing, shoes, and essentials, while students in Life Skills classes help wash, sort, and organize items. The grant will help expand the closet so it can continue serving students who need it most.

Investing in Students’ Futures

These grants represent more than funding — they represent opportunities for students to think more deeply, feel a stronger sense of belonging, and walk into school each day with confidence.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the East Chambers ISD Education Foundation is proud to help bring these ideas to life and support the educators who are making a difference for our students every day.
